Eating eggs – our eggs October 13, 2010

Filed under: Chickens — sarahtar @ 2:21 pm

We’re eating our own eggs again – and not the few I’ve hoarded while waiting for the girls to start laying again. Actual fresh eggs. whoo hoo!

White Hen has been molting. Black Hen has been broody since March. And of course Brown Hen died. Black Hen finally stopped brooding about 3-4 weeks ago, but hadn’t shown any sign of actually planning to lay eggs ever again.

And then suddenly, she started.

And if their color (light brown) didn’t give away who the responsible party was, I’d know by the manner in which they were laid. They were laid kind of b*tchy. Really.

We have two nests, both with golf balls in them, but both hens are well aware of where they are supposed to lay eggs. But I can almost hear that black hen – “Are you kidding me, lady? You spent 7 months shoving me OFF those nests. Like Heck I’m going to lay eggs there now.”

sheesh. She’s lucky she’s so pretty.
